About Westport

Westport, on the south end of Grays Harbor just two hours from Seattle, is likely Washington’s best kept coastal secret. Historically famous for its fishing charters, Westport is fast evolving into a classic northwest beach destination.

Mariners and landlubbers alike will be captivated by fishing options that include a charter fleet of over 30 boats, seasonal surf perch fishing, salmon fishing off the docks, and a healthy seasonal dungeness crab and razor clam catch. Even if you're not into catching your own dinner, the fisherman's boardwalk offers a lovely mile long walk over the waters of the Westport Marina.

Local activities for visitors vary throughout the year, but beachcombing the 18 miles of sandy beaches that stretch from Tokeland in the South to the Westport Marina on the North is popular all year round. Whether you enjoy bundling up to storm watch during the winter months or taking it all off to wade in the shore break during the summer. Whalewatching from the beach is popular in springtime, and this May the Grey Whales were particularly friendly - coming in as close as a few hundred feet to say hello.

For those more adventuresome, Westport is home to the most popular surfing beaches north of California, as well as 2 surf shops which provide equipment rentals and lessons. The annual Clean Water Classic, the PNW's largest surf competition is held at Westhaven State Park each spring to benefit the Surfrider Foundation.

Festivals are a great way to enjoy the small town ambiance that makes Westport special. Starting in April with the World Famous Crab Races, there is always something exciting happening in the South Beach. Don't miss the family fun surrounding Rusty Scuppers Pirate Daze in June - and be sure to bring your four legged family members along for the Salty Dog costume contest. Fourth of July is always fun, with a family fun at the Maritime Museum (and some amazing unsanctioned fireworks displays on the beachs). August brings the Westport Art Festival and its many talented artisans and craftsment to the Marina District. After Labor Day, the bargain hunters come out of the woodwork for 18 miles of junque - the coast's largest community swap meet that stretches from Tokeland to Westport.

Other attractions include paddle boat rentals, the local Maritime Museum, and Grays Harbor Light Station (don't miss your opportunity to climb Washington's Tallest Lighthouse!)

The dining scene in Westport, once limited to fish and chips and chowder, has progressed to include fine seafood dining, high end wine lists, sushi, and Washington's Best Bloody Mary. Westport is also home to Washington's newest winery, the Westport Winery and Vineyards-by-the-Sea. Stop by daily for wine, chocolate and cheese tastings, and take a tour of their beautiful vineyards.
